Dalila Early, our Founder and Director. Was born in Brazil, where she pursued a Bachelor in Business and a Master's Degree in Marketing. During her graduation process as part of her thesis, she developed and implemented an Environmental Program. The project included a recycling and educational component focusing on teaching environmental awareness to elementary students. Dalila has always been passionate about children, learning, and the environment. Soon after the birth of her son she started dreaming and working to create a very special place for children to learn and grow. Her business background and natural ability to relate to children and people have been a great assets on creating and maintaining the Natural Learning School.

Penny Dodds holds a Masters Degree in International Education. She has taught English in Poland, coordinated international exchange programs for teens, and assisted the camp director of Seeds of Peace International Camp in Otisfield, Maine. She has also been a French and English language instructor at camps in the Pennsylvania and Poland. Ms. Dodds' passion for working with young children began as an after school program coordinator and summer camp co-director in Portland, Maine. The grant program "Project Safe and Smart" offered fun educational and artistic programming to children at academic and social risk in the city. Ms. Dodds is a mother and a professional artist. She is a recent transplant to Memphis and is excited to participate in the continual strengthening and growth of the Cooper-Young community.

Judith Pfeiffer, born in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, graduated in 2008 from the University Memphis, School of Music with a DMA in Piano Performance. She also received several degrees in piano and music education from different German and French Institutions.. As a solo pianist, she has performed extensively throughout Germany, Cyprus, Austria, Italy, France, Portugal, and the United States. Her first CD, released in the spring of 2002, featured works by several international female composers. It received great attention and was acclaimed by critics and the general public alike. Judith has taught for more than twenty years. Her teaching experience includes private piano instruction, Kindermusik, and class piano at the University of Memphis.

Kandra Kolehmainen grew up in a small farming town in Iowa. She attended the University of Iowa and earned a bachelor's degree in English with an Emphasis in Spanish. She also took classes in Early Childhood Education as well as dance. After working several years in the corporate world in both Chicago and Memphis, Kandra settled down as a full time mother after the birth of her son. She practiced attachment parenting which eventually led to a passion for homeschooling. She has homeschooled her two children for the past threee years, and has founded or actively participated in several homeschool groups in Memphis. Kandra is passionate about gentley guiding children to find their voice as well as opening their minds to new concepts.





Lindsey Looft, is from Saint Francis, Kentucky and achieved a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Western Kentucky University with an emphasis in Graphic Design. Lindsey has a deep love for nature and creative exploration through the arts, which she hopes to instill in all of her students. She has been working with the Natural Learning School since September, 2007, shortly after the grand opening. Her Design background contributes to documentation of the children's work, the website blog, and the communications purposes of the school. She has been living in the Midtown area of Memphis since May of 2007.







Dr. Amy Smith comes to us with an extensive back ground in Early Childhood Education. She earned a Ph.D. with a concentration in Early Childhood Development. She has 15 years of experience as a teacher, researcher, and consultant, has presented at numerous national conferences, and spent a valuable time of personal study in Reggio Emilia, Her experience and the depth of her knowledge about primary and elementary children is indeed a great asset to our school.
